TIPS for writing a good Letter to the Editor

• Less is more—keep it short
• Use spell checker
• No profanity, name-calling, or stereotypical remarks (e.g., all Republicans...)
• Check your facts for accuracy
• Follow what your high school English teacher taught you—unity, coherence and emphasis. Establish a theme, use topic and transition sentences, and use repetition judiciously for emphasis.
